Jazz Festival 2010 Wrap-Up

A HUGE thank you to all volunteers who played a part in the 2010 Folsom Jazz Festival. Our festival is known as the premier festival in Northern California and there's a reason for that...the hard work and dedication of our music staff and tremendous parent and student volunteers. Special thanks to Natalie Marhauer and her lead committee for their tireless efforts.

The festival was attended by over 130 schools. We had to turn schools away because we didn't have enough performance time. And our students made a favorable impression on all. Following the Friday night concert featuring the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band, Steve Wiest, their Grammy-nominated conductor, said that we have an amazing program here in our own little corner of the world that should never be taken for granted. Steve went on to say that the Folsom High School Jazz Band I that performed that evening was better than 35 of the 40 all-star college bands he has mentored in his clinics over the last few years.

Jazz Festival Volunteers and Schedule

We are still in need of many volunteers for the upcoming Folsom Jazz Festival on Saturday January 30th. Please contact Holly Larson at bmllarson@sbcglobal.net or Valerie Alens at valens@comcast.net.

Has your student volunteered to work the Festival yet? There is a sign-up sheet on the board in the Band room. Please encourage them to participate!

Jazz Festival Volunteer Meeting-Wednesday January 6th


Don't forget...the first Jazz Festival Volunteer Meeting will be held Wednesday January 6th at 7:00 pm in the Choir Room. It takes many volunteers to make this annual event a success. Please plan on attending and lending your expertise!

Volunteers Needed for Jazz Festival

The Jazz Festival is coming up on January 30th and volunteers are still needed for the following lead positions: Venue Manager - Band Room, Venue Manager - Library, Venue Manager - Multi, Venue Manager - Auditorium (at Rolling Hills Community Church), Parking, Program, and Snack Bar. The first volunteer meeting is scheduled for January 6th (with meetings every Wednesday thereafter). Please email Natalie Marhauer at nmarhauer@aol.com if you have any questions or would like to fill one of these positions.

The Folsom Jazz Festival has grown to become one of the largest and most popular school jazz festivals in the State. Over 125 middle school and high school jazz bands, choirs and combos will compete.

Special Concert - University Of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band

We are very excited that the University of North Texas One O'Clock Lab Band has agreed to do a concert for us, Friday, January 29th, 2010, the night before the Jazz Festival. The UNT One O'Clock Lab Band has been nominated for TWO 2009 Grammy Awards! The FHS One O'Clock Jazz Band will open for the internationally-acclaimed band. This concert is sure to sell out quickly so buy your tickets early by visiting http://www.folsommusic.org/. The tickets will be $15 presale and $20 at the door, if they are available.
